My Windows XP home pc got infected on Wednesday with a rogue security center virus program that was a real nightmare and came out of nowhere on a automotive brake site I clicked onto. I was denied access to pretty much everything and I managed to log off and get onto another account to use malewarebytes to remove it. It left a mess with no access to MSE,Security Center and XP firewall. I scanned with malewarebytes,Emsisoft Emergency Kit and E-set online scanner and viruses are gone. I have managed to restore the Security Center and xp firewall. There was no access to MSE so I had to remove it with a windows fix-it because it said the program was already installed when I tried to reinstall it. Now when I try to install Microsoft Security Essentials I get error code 0x80070780 This virus must have altered or removed files I think. How can I fix this?Is there a relatively easy fix available? The computer works fine but I can't install MSE. I'm a novice user and don't know much about the inner workings and going from some prior reading I could be in over my head on this issue. The basic things I tried on the Microsoft site don't work so I think it's more involved if files have been altered by this virus.
